South Jordan is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah. It is located along Interstate 15 and is about 15 miles south of Salt Lake City. South Jordan is a large urban community surrounded by the Jordan River and overlooked by the beautiful Oquirrh and Wasatch Mountains.

According to the 2000 census, South Jordan has a population of more than 29,000 people. The city has a total area of 22.3 square miles (0.2 square miles water) with a population density of over 1,400 people per square mile. It is located at high altitudes of over 4,400 feet above sea level.

The racial demographics of South Jordan are 95.51% White, 0.30% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.48% Pacific Islander, 1.29% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race make up 3.27% of the population.

South Jordan has more than 7,500 households, many of them affluent. The median income for a household in the city is $75,433, and the median income for a family is $76,809.

South Jordan is the only city in the world with two temples belonging to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Jordan River Utah Temple opened in 1981, and the Oquirrh Mountain Temple is scheduled to open in early 2009.

Public education in the city is provided by Jordan School District, which has seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

South Jordan is home to the headquarters of to Merit Medical System, a company in the medical devices industry.
